Lossless compression
From TrillWiki
As opposed to JPG files, PNG and GIF files use "lossless compression", which means they are able to compress the files without the loss of data. However, these formats tend to be larger than their lossy counterparts. However, since no data is lost, the viewed image is identical to the way it was saved. (Likewise, ZIP files use lossless compression, because extracting exact information is critical.)
