Trillian Language Help

From TrillWiki

Jump to: navigation, search

Trillian supports language packs making it easier to use for non-English speakers. This wiki provides a way for you to help contribute to Trillian and make it easier for your fellow users to understand. You will get to put your name on the contributors list and the other people that speak your language will thank you!

[edit] How do I help?

For an existing language, look around the pages for either an empty translation or something that could use some grammatical help and edit it.

To edit a page, click the 'edit' link at the top. Then search the page for either the entry to change or for empty entries. Empty items are marked with the comment of: <!-- Translation needed -->. You can remove that text and replace it with your own.

To help prevent spam, we currently do not allow anonymous editing. Accounts are free and super-quick to create.

There is no need to maintain percentages, as a robot will go through and calculate all totals.

[edit] Many types of translations needed

There are many types of translations in Trillian. The first is "word for word" translation, where we convert an english phrase into another, such as:

Away -> Away

or

Away -> Abwesend

The next is where we translate a custom word token into a phrase, such as:

infoChatCreating -> "Creating group chat..."

[edit] Preview and save often

Before you submit a change, be sure to click the 'show preview' button to make sure things still look ok. It also gives you the option to cancel any editing if something goes wrong.

Save often as you go. This allows you to easily revert back to an older version, without losing all changes. If you save and notice an issue, you can click the history button to find the best version to replace it with.

[edit] How can I use the language pack?

When a language pack has reached a certain percentage, we will provide it as an option within Trillian Astra. You can choose the language either from the login screen or within the Preferences-> Installation & Startup. The language will automatically be downloaded and installed. It will update to the newest version automatically as well if changes are made in the wiki (This updating will be done periodically, so all changes in the wiki will not immediately appear in the client).

[edit] It's alive

Since this translation effort is happening in conjunction with the beta testing of the product, there will be some changes to the base language as we go. As the English language changes, the robot will go through and update all other languages and their percentages may fluctuate. So a language that is 100% one day, could go to 97% with some additions.

[edit] How can I translate other items (such as widgets and plugins)?

There will be sections dedicated to this in the future.

[edit] Thank you

We just want to say thank you in advance to anyone who helps out, no matter how much they do. It may be fixing a typo to completing a whole language pack single-handedly. We ask that you please fill out the contributer page for your language pack so that people know who you are. You may also link to your own blog, homepage, astra page or project with your name as well. Thanks again!
